Optiro courses take you step-by-step through the technical processes – using real-life data sets – to ensure you gain the practical experience you need to immediately put what you have learned into practice.
Optiro courses form part of The AusIMM 2016 Professional Development Training Program and have an 8 PD hours per training-day AUSIMM rating.
Here are the courses that are scheduled for December:
This 1-day course provides a compendium of Excel tips, tricks, tools and templates specifically designed for mine and exploration geologists. You will learn how to present data graphically to best advantage, how to use pivot tables, navigation, sorting and advanced filtering techniques to get valuable information out of massive data sets and how to generate key graphs (such as Q-Q plots). The outcome will be that you are aware of and able to use a whole range of labour-saving tools to present messages more clearly and to derive meaningful information from data.
Understanding the impacts of poor sampling, how to optimise the frequency size and the nature of the sample, and quantifying the errors associated with your samples is among the most important information you must have. In this 1-day course we examine the two principal fields of sampling – theory and practice. Practice of how the sample is taken, delimited, reduced, transported and prepared; and the theory of how to measure the errors associated with our sampling protocols, and to optimise those protocols. The outcomes will be a detailed understanding of what the key issues in sampling are and how to ensure value add in the sampling process.
This 2-day course covers the QAQC life cycle: from planning the types and frequencies of QAQC data to be collected; the mechanics of collecting, transporting and submitting the samples; analysing to reveal systematic and trending errors; deciding what is and what isn’t a failure; and to making the changes in the resource database. We take an holistic view of QAQC and emphasise the importance of having a rigorous and comprehensive system. We also emphasise learning the key techniques by building the analysis tools in Excel and by analysing and commenting on real-life QAQC data.
