Reconciliation - Getting It Right The First Time 2013
- 12th July 2013
- 15th November 2013
Reconciliation of resource and reserve models, grade control models, mine production data and plant tonnage and grade is one of the most vital functions in the mining cycle. Not only does it serve to validate (or not!) the Mineral Resources and Ore Reserves, the reconciliation can highlight any issues in the reserve to production process and in the ore tracking and stockpiling systems. However, most reconciliation systems are unnecessarily complex and do not always provide the information that the stakeholders need to see in order to properly manage operations. In this course we cover all aspects of the reconciliation process, including the key data which needs to be collected, the importance of unbiased measurement of volumes, tonnages and grades (among other metrics). We will show how to map out the production data flow and discuss the important measures of performance. Attendees will work on real-life reconciliation information and examine the potential sources of error. Scrutiny of the processing side of the reconciliation information provides another perspective, and a discussion of best practice highlights how efficient and useful a well-specified system can be.
Presenter
Ian Glacken has presented hundreds of courses to thousands of participants over the last 20 years. He is a geologist and a geostatistician who has developed and given courses in resource evaluation, QAQC, grade control, reconciliation and conditional simulation worldwide. Ian has a strong mining production background and is a regular auditor for the world’s largest mining companies. For more details see our people.
Audience
The course is intended for all those who need to design, maintain, complete, review and use reconciliation systems, but primarily the mining staff who are charged with the ownership of the reconciliation information. The course is, however, a practical overview of the usefulness and the pitfalls inherent in reconciliation and metallurgical balance calculations for management.
